Hot Rodders of Tomorrow

www.hotroddersoftomorrow.com

The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge (HRTEC) is a thrilling reminder of how hard work and achievement are still highly valued commodities among the young guns. High school teams and Community college teams compete in this unique "non-profit" series.

The series is reminiscent of a Top Fuel team between rounds at an NHRA event, competing against one another to achieve the fastest times, balancing swiftness with care so as not to be assessed with penalties. Students must properly disassemble a 350 Chevy engine using only hand tools. Two judges watch as each team is required to remove the air cleaner, carburetor, distributor and wires, spark plugs, manifold, headers, cylinder heads, lifters, rocker arms, push rods, timing chain and cover, oil filter, oil pan, and all eight pistons and rods. The camshaft and crankshaft remain in the block. This is not simply an exercise in throwing parts together. HRTEC judges expect these engines to be able to run if gas, oil, and water were added. Time penalties are given to a team, as described in the 18-page rulebook, for missteps such as dropped components, improper dis-assembly or assembly, parts breakage, and poor sportsmanship.

Tim Freeman dreamed up the HRTEC for "The youth of America to get involved working with their hands. With the program, we gave the auto instructors another tool to keep the kids interested in coming to school." The HRTEC has expanded its original Chicagoland boundaries, including the Edelbrock Annual Rev'ved Up 4 Kidz Charity Car Show in California and Lane Automotive's Annual Cruise-In and Car Show in Michigan. Recognizing the potential of this competition, a number of national parts distributors and high-performance manufacturers have signed on to support the competition. Freeman comments, "The manufacturers did not care whose product was on the engines. There were competing products, but they saw a need for this competition."

The potential for this event is enormous and the momentum is huge! Freeman explains the vision for HRTEC: "I would like to see this competition brought into divisions, similar to the NHRA. Different divisions could do qualifying events that could lead to taking teams to a national event for a national championship." And so is was in 2009 that Tim's wishes were so granted!

Beginning in 2009, The "Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Championship", now dubbed “The Showdown at SEMA,” feature the winners from all qualifying rounds facing off in the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge National Championship. Both the qualifying rounds and the final showdown now take place in Hot Rod Alley at the HUGE industry spectacle called the "SEMA Show" in Las Vegas, Nevada

If you're at the SEMA Show, be sure to watch the action unfold as students race against the clock to disassemble and rebuild a Chevy 350 engine using only hand tools during the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge National Championship!

These young and eager people are the "Future of The Performance & Racing Industry"!

Project 1320

www.project1320.com

Loud, Brash, Colorful! So Uniquely American! From the time shortly after the millions of servicemen returned home from World War II, drag racing began a steady growth across the American landscape, until it exploded into a major force on the motorsports scene in the mid-1960s, and never left. The sport grew, and the vibrant performance aftermarket industry was built with it.  Drag Racing... Loud. Brash. Colorful!

PROJECT 1320, a series of television documentary films, captures the historical perspectives of the pioneers of the sport. The goal is to film first-person narratives coupled with still images and old movies of the period, to tell the stories of "Who, What, When, Where, Why" of these heroes and legends in their words.

Project 1320 centers on the racers, manufacturers, associations plus the behind the scenes people... what it took to bring this great sport to the current level. The racers who are a part of this series include some of today's stars but also includes the legends – whose contributions may have faded in our minds – but who helped launch the sport, nurtured it and saw it become a major motorsport and a multi-billion dollar industry.

Project 1320's web site is your home to join the effort as a "Friend of PROJECT 1320", to watch from "behind the scenes" as the documentaries are being filmed and edited. You'll see old, never published photos and movies which will trigger your own flood of memories. You will be able to join a network of fellow drag racing history fans, who will assure this important saga of automotive history is not lost.

As the pioneers leave us forever, we lose their memories, their insights and colorful recollections of how it was "back in the day." Project 1320 is in a race against time... each of you are important to this race.

The Quarter Mile Entertainment Foundation is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a Section 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational charity organization, effective March 31, 2010.  It is the parent organization overseeing the production of the PROJECT 1320 undertaking. It is the business entity which guides the sales and marketing efforts, as well as all aspects of the production of the documentary series.

PWA - Performance Warehouse Association

www.pwa-par.org

In recent years, the private sector has been under attack by consumer groups, governmental agencies, and labor pressures that make it impossible for an individual, engaged in private enterprise, to defend themselves against all of these highly organized groups alone. Therefore, your best chance for survival depends on grouping yourself with others of similar needs. PWA, the Performance Warehouse Association is your answer.

PWA is an organization of specialty automotive parts wholesalers joined together and dealing with management, financial and legislative matters. This description is only an overview and as you continue to review our website, it will become evident that much mores is accomplished through participation in PWA.

A Board of Directors governs PWA. The officers and directors act on behalf of the members. In addition, the Board who manages the PWA office appoints an Executive Director. Directors are elected to a two-year term by the warehouse distributor (active) membership, which represent the United States, Canada and International. The President and Treasurer are also elected by the active membership to a two-year term.

Founded in 1971, PWA today leads the industry in jobber/retailer support programs. Thousands of high performance retailers support our very successful Performance Automotive Retailer (PAR) program. The PARLOCATOR program and the Performance Warehouse Association University (PWAU) programs have recently been developed to help the Jobber / Retailer.

PWA University

www.pwauniversity.com

The results of these lessons will show the training administrator the areas for improvement of their workforce.

Every employee at a jobber/retailer, warehouse distributor, sales rep and manufacturer will be able to watch and follow the advancements made by each and everyone who is authorized to take the lessons required by their training administrator. The results will be kept private.

Their site is sponsored by the members of PWA and is free to all PWA & PAR members.

SEI - SEMA Educational Institute

www.sema.org/sei

SEI - Educating the Automotive Future

SEMA recognizes how integral training is to its members’ success and has invested in the development of a World-class, web-based learning enterprise. That learning enterprise is SEI -- and its goal is to provide members with programs and information that will maximize business results. SEI has partnered with software developers, subject matter experts and professional educators to build the best learning program possible.

SEI Mission - The SEI mission is to provide the best source of education, training, and information resources to the specialty automotive equipment industry.

SEI Focuses on Product training, Personal Development and Professional Skills Improvement Plans, Certification programs and Outreach/Partnership programs.

Benefiting the Supply Chain - For manufacturers, the program introduces a unique marketing and training avenue that reaches jobbers and retailers who may not know about their products. It means less travel and broader reach. Most importantly, it guarantees instant access to new product releases, technical bulletins, news, and sales promotions. For jobbers, retailers, and installers, it’s one-stop shopping – product information from multiple manufacturers in one place, always accessible, organized and delivered in a way that markets and educates at the same time.

SEI Today And Tomorrow - SEI is an essential part of the education initiative at SEMA. They invite you to get involved in training now; take advantage of the most extensive offering of educational seminars, presentations and round-tables in the history of the SEMA Show. And remember: this training isn’t necessarily about getting degrees and certificates. SEI is all about industry people talking to each other—helping solve the problems they have today!

SEMA - Specialty Equipment Market Association

www.sema.org

A love for cars, trucks and SUVs is the motivating force behind the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). This trade association consists of a diverse group of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, publishing companies, auto restorers, street-rod builders, restylers, car clubs, race teams and more.

SEMA members make, buy, sell and use all kinds of specialty parts and accessories to make vehicles more attractive, more unique, more convenient, faster, safer, more fun and even like-new again.

The companies that founded SEMA—and the entire specialty parts and accessories industry, for that matter—were started by people who loved cars and trucks and turned their hobby into a career. Most people in the industry today still feel this way. That’s one of the things that makes SEMA and its members unique.

Today, the nearly 50-year-old organization performs many services for its members and for the hobby as a whole. Perhaps most importantly, SEMA works hard to protect consumers’ rights to drive accessorized, customized and vintage vehicles. SEMA keeps close tabs on legislators in Washington, D.C., and also in each state within the United States, so SEMA members and anyone who loves cars and trucks can protest pending legislation that might harm our hobby, as well as endorse legislation that’s good for car lovers. SEMA also has helped numerous consumers interact with car dealers, who sometimes try to get away with charging for repairs on a modified vehicle by claiming (wrongly) that specialty accessories have voided its warranty.

Every year, SEMA also presents an enormous trade show in Las Vegas. This is where manufacturers unveil their latest offerings, while buyers, distributors and members of the press walk their feet off to see it all. Visit SEMA Show website at www.semashow.com for more information.

The variety is astonishing, from restyling accessories and automotive organizers to engine parts, restoration supplies, street-rod components and safety enhancements.

SEMA - Councils & Committees

www.sema.org/councils-committees

SEMA Councils and Committees - Over its history, SEMA has achieved recognition as the representative of an expanding specialty-equipment industry. The Board of Directors guided SEMA’s growth and efficiency based on the idea that the industry and the trade association are stronger when united.

What began as a manufacturers' association for speed equipment now includes a range of industry business functions and diverse product niches. The council program was developed to allow these various market niches to identify their unique challenges and opportunities and to better utilize the association’s resources.

A good starting place in reviewing the purpose of the councils is the association’s mission statement. The association exists to help our members succeed and prosper. It follows that the primary purpose of the councils is to identify and help SEMA deliver programs that will help these member companies do well.

With the above in mind, each SEMA council represents a group of SEMA members that share a common business purpose or market segment. The group should be able to identify common business goals, issues and challenges that require a special focus by the association. The councils should direct their energies toward achieving the group’s goals.

Association resources, which can be brought to bear, include special programs, services, conferences, trade shows, networking opportunities, recognition programs and the resources of SEMA’s departments.

RPM encourages everyone to involved with SEMA's councils & committees at some level. For more information, please visit their web site and be sure to tell them that RPM sent you!
